There’s a lot of information that can be found on a tire sidewall that is important to know. The tire sidewall comes with numbers on it that goes into detail about make, model, size, and load and speed rating.
When you first take a look at your tire sidewall you may see a string of information like P235/70R16 100 S. The “P” in the string means “Passenger” then you have the “235” which is the tire width, then the “70” is the Aspect Ratio, the “R” is the construction of the tire and “R” means that it has a radial construction, the “16” is the wheel diameter, the “100” is the Load index which indicates the weight that the tire can carry at a safe inflation -the actual weight for 100 is 1764 lbs of weight that the tire can carry, and then the “S” is for the speed rating that the tire can go at safe inflation- the speed for the “S” is 112 mph. All of this size information on the tire sidewall is important when you are needing to purchase a new tire.
